Another Thing I Love But Can’t Afford

Uffizi_elevation_smallI’m in the market for some kind of cool loft/bunk bed for my 13-year-old son. I just saw this on coochicoos and now I’m totally bummed out because it costs $1850!!!! I just wanted to share the sadness of the moment of having the bar raised so high that every thing else looks kind of shabby in comparison. But maybe  ikea or target  will see this and come up with something Amazingly Modern on the little more on the affordable side. If you’re feeling flush you can pre-order one at modern tots for a September delivery. Of course, if you get one please share the love and invite us for a sleepover.

Although I have not done this myself, I know many people who have built their own loft beds. When I worked at The College of Wooster in Ohio, I think every student there built one in their dorm room. I have heard that they are not difficult to construct. When I googled the phrase, “build loft bed” I found a lot of great sites with info, including some that offer kits for a fraction of the cost you list.
Find a few college students in your area, and they may be willing to help you. Good luck! They’re a very cool way to add space!

All I can think of is Mondrian’s paintings! How lovely.
For someone with the space, tools, time and materials, this could be a fun DIY project (coming in at far less expense than $1800). I’d add squares of color to complete the Mondrian look.

For me, a d.i.y. bunk bed would be the ablity to put together one from ikea without pieces left over! I’m afraid of building something so large that would have to be sturdy enough to hold my kid! i think i could make a mini-dollhouse size…I wish I were more handy!
    p.s. mom*mom
I’m entering! I’m going to win a contest. I already told me kids don’t get me anything ’cause I’m winning something for myself!
